Using OneFile to deliver apprenticeship standards

Since OneFile started out 15 years ago, we’ve been pioneering technology for apprenticeships. We’re always developing our software to improve usability and keep up with sector reforms, so we’ve developed 7 brand-new features to support the new standards – from an off-the-job tracker to a portfolio showcase feature.

1. Evaluation scorecard

With OneFile’s evaluation scorecard, apprentices can rate their understand of each KSB when they start their programme – record their ‘baseline’ or ‘starting point’. Apprentices and then continue to score themselves as they progress, allowing them to evaluate their skills and reflect on their learning throughout the programme. Their scores will be plotted on a graph to show evidence of the progression of learning – which is exactly what Ofsted wants to see.

2. Learning journal

OneFile’s learning journal makes it easy for apprentices to reflect on learning as it happens. Apprentices can complete a journal entry, upload evidence and share it to their learning timeline. Tutors and employers can then monitor progress, add comments or share feedback.

3. Course builder

The change from the old frameworks to new standards has shifted the focus of apprenticeships from assessing to learning. In reaction, we’ve developed a course builder where users can create a bank of online learning resources – from workbooks to video content – and import existing content via SCORM. Content is mapped to criteria so progress is automatically tracked, and you can create quizzes to test knowledge as learners progress. It’s ideal for on-programme learning and preparing apprentices for gateway and EPA.

4. 20% off-the-job training tracker

We’ve developed our timesheet feature so apprentices can track their off-the-job training within their eportfolio. They can input their learning activity, where it took place, how long it took and a description to evidence their work. Employers can also report on the activity to monitor how their apprentices are progressing.

5. Progress weightings

Some new standards have different weightings for different components. We’ve developed a new progress weightings feature so centres have complete control over the weightings for both on-programme learning and the end-point assessment.

6. Building standards

Our in-house standards team can build bespoke standards to suit your centre. We also have 100s already uploaded onto the system, so they’re ready to go when you are!

7. Portfolio showcase

Some end-point assessment organisations ask to see a portfolio of evidence as part of the EPA. To make this easy, we’ve developed a portfolio showcase where learners can create an online collection of their best evidence. The feature includes a report of all learner evidence where you can select the best pieces and download them into a read-only zip file. This can be emailed to the end-point assessment centre as part of the EPA.
