Coventry College secures record GCSE results for third time
@CoventryCollege is celebrating a record GCSE pass rate for its students for the third year in a row.
The city’s leading further education provider achieved pass rates of 92 per cent and 91 per cent for Maths and English respectively for the 2019/20 academic year – with more than 600 entries across the two subjects achieving a 9-4 grade, which is equivalent to A* to C.
This year’s results mean that the College has seen around a five per cent increase in the pass rate for English and Maths versus last year, and a seven per cent rise on two years ago.
Carol Thomas, Principal and CEO at Coventry College, said: “As a College we are here to help shape people’s futures, regardless of their background, and these GCSE results really hit home what a fantastic job everybody at the College is doing despite the challenges presented by Covid-19.
“While the results have been generated differently this year, all of our teachers have taken a great deal of time to ensure the grades they have awarded each of their students has been based on the standard of work and knowledge that they were showcasing in practice tests and classes prior to lockdown.
“The College often takes on GCSE students who are in need of extra support in passing their exams after five years of study at secondary school, so to have had nearly 400 entries from 16 to 18-year-olds achieving a 9-4 grade within 12 months of being with us is a fantastic achievement.
“GCSE results have also coincided with an upturn in enrolment numbers for us, and we are on track to equal last year’s enrolment numbers which saw more than 8,000 students choose to study with us.”
