From education to employment

New Enrolment Day Procedures for Post-16 Courses at SERC

New Enrolment Day Procedures

There is still time to apply for further education, training, or apprenticeship courses at @S_ERC – but students are urged to get online and apply as soon as possible, in line with new enrolment procedures in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Heather McKee, Director of Strategic Planning, Quality and Support said, “We look forward to welcoming students to the College in September but in line with Government advice, the enrolment process will be a little different this year.”

She added, “Any post-GCSE student wishing to progress to a further education, training, or apprenticeship programme, must apply online at serc.ac.uk. All applicants will receive an enrolment appointment which they need to accept in advance and then attend their chosen campus on the date and time allocated. This will be during the period Monday 17 to Wednesday 19 August. A parent or guardian may attend with students, but we ask that this is limited to one person.

“On results day, Thursday 20 August, students need to log on to their online SERC account and upload their results before 12 noon to confirm their place.”

Further Education courses are aimed at post GCSE level students and include a range of qualifications including Level 2 Diplomas and Level 3 Diplomas/Extended Diplomas. Further Education can give you the qualifications and skills to gain employment or progress to higher education.

Training for Success (TFS) courses are designed for 16-17-year olds to help them take the first step on the career ladder, developing the skills and workplace experience required by employers.

An Apprenticeship is a ‘job’ from day one and is a combination of on-the-job training in the workplace and off-the-job training in college.

Heather concluded, “It is not too late to apply for post GCSE courses commencing September and I encourage anyone wishing to progress to SERC to visit our website and apply now. We also have a series of webinars available on our website which gives potential students an insight to each programme.”

Students should not attend the Enrolment Days without an appointment. The College will have appropriate PPE in place for students attending appointments. Social distancing measures are in place as well as hand sanitising stations across the campus.
