Kirklees College announces Academy partnership with Huddersfield Giants
As part of the expansion of the college’s Sports Academy provision, the new Rugby League Academy can be accessed by any student studying at Kirklees College to create an inclusive team that nurtures home-grown talent, not just Sport students.
Under the new provision, students will have the opportunity to be coached by Huddersfield Giants staff, as part of their category 3 Academy team and compete in the illustrious RFL National Premier League.
Matt Robinson, Curriculum Area Manager for Sport, Uniform Protective Services and Children and Families at Kirklees College, said:
“We have been working on this partnership for some time and it feels great to finally get it over the line. This exciting partnership will give our students the platform to play and enhance their skills to push on towards playing at a higher level in the future, whilst studying at college.”
Jonny Benton, Education Manager at Huddersfield Giants Community Trust, added:
“We are looking forward to working with Kirklees College to widen the opportunity for local Rugby League players to train and play for the Huddersfield Giants Community Trust Development Academy, alongside their academic studies. Huddersfield Giants Education Programme offers a BTEC Sport Level 3 and with this partnership there is now a fantastic opportunity to grow the number of active Rugby League players aged 16-19, with the inclusion of Kirklees College learners from a range of courses, joining the Development Academy.”
