Uproar as long-term plan to relocate staff is revealed

The Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) plan to relocate thousands of jobs to the South West of England have resulted in hundreds of union members voting in ballot for industrial action.
Prospect, the union representing those engaged within the defence industry, have condemned the MOD’s plans to relocate thousands of defence professionals from Defence Logistics Organisations (DLO) around the country, in order to merge with the Defence Procurement Agency based in Bristol.
Four hundred DLO staff currently under threat are based at sites across the nation, including Andover, Caversfield, Telford, Wyton/Brampton and Yeovilton/Sherborne.
Steve Jary, Prospect national secretary, commented on the relocation plan: “A final decision by the department is expected in the next few weeks. The purpose of the action is to demonstrate to the department the strength of feeling among our members”.
And these members will vote on a work-to-rule, likely to include adhering to job descriptions, working conditioned hours only, no overtime and full compliance with health and safety procedures.
As members prepared themselves for the worst case strike scenario, Mr Jary added: “They are determined to stop the proposed collocation and secure commitments for no compulsory redundancies or transfers”.
