Bolton Community College Setting Standards in FE Improvement

The importance of providing education for the whole community was highlighted by Bolton Community College, at a conference to raise awareness of improving standards in further education.

More than 40 delegates from the further education sector visited the college’s Horwich campus, to gain an insight into the college’s progress and their commitment to the following areas of provision: social inclusion, equal opportunity, quality assurance, teaching, staff development and learning for all to the age of 19.

Filling the Inspection Recommendation

The event took place following a commendation earlier this year from Ofsted and the Adult Learning Inspectorate (ALI) inspectors, who awarded the college a Grade 1 “outstanding” rating. The achievement was in recognition of their commitment to providing: health, social care and early years, as well as support for learners with learning difficulties, sensory impairment and dyslexia.

Speaking at the event was Vice Principal of Bolton Community College, Beri Hare, who said: “The conference focused on ways in which outstanding improvements have been achieved across the college. Delegates were invited to listen to and share the colleges strategies for raising standards and contribute their own experiences.

Amongst those attending the conference were senior representatives from the sector, including Paul Cassell, Director of College of Sciences, St Helens College, and Louise Dawson, Head of Faculty at Calderdale College. He added: “The day was extremely positive and it is a testimony to the College that so many people attended.” Louise Dawson, Head of Faculty at Calderdale College spoke of the value of the event. She said: “It was an excellent day. I learned a lot from the various topics covered and Ill take back with me some really useful ideas.”
