Cardonald College at the Top of International Competition
“
A Glasgow design student has beaten hundreds of other designers to win a competition to help launch a new website designed for parents with young children.
Catherine Dockery, who has attended Glasgows Cardonald College for three years, created character designs that the judging panel felt suited the Bosieboo brand perfectly in the way it reflected the image of the company. The competition was open to a number of specialist design colleges and universities across Sweden and the United Kingdom. The aim for was entrants to design a strong logo that would be instantly recogniseable and symbolise the Bosieboo brand.
Effective Promotion
Designers were also given the opportunity to think up a catchy slogan that promoted the companys products effectively. Bosieboo launches its e-store in May in both Sweden and the United Kingdom and will be making their innovative products available to the public for the first time at the Baby fair in Birmingham on May 19th 2006. Catherines designs were chosen to be used as part of this launch and play an important part in Bosieboos initial campaign.
Speaking on the subject, the Managing Director of Bosieboo.com, Elaine Bates, stated: “The high standard of entries we had from Cardonald College and other colleges and universities throughout Britain and Sweden was overwhelming – it was wonderful to see the support the college gave to the students.” Catherine, who has now been accepted onto an advanced diploma course next year, was pleasantly surprised at her win due to the number and high quality of entries.
Surprised and Delighted
Discussing her achievement, Catherine said: “When my lecturer Alison Scott, told the class about the competition, she encouraged us to take part and submit an entry, which I was very keen to do. I never gave my submission another thought because I knew other entries would be coming in from around the UK and from Sweden so I was surprised but delighted to be told I had won.
“In my design, I used bright colours and simple shapes which I felt reflected Bosieboo’s revolutionary products,” Catherine continued. “This achievement is great for my CV and overall, it was a great and very valuable experience for me.” Bosieboos products include audio, video and out of range baby monitors and other pieces aimed at supporting new parents through effective yet simple products.
Cardonald College Principal Ros Micklem praised those that took the time and effort to submit designs for the campaign. “The college as a whole is dedicated to continually creating links with business and industry. We were delighted to take part in the graphics competition as it gave students the opportunity to sample a real life working brief. Congratulations to all students who took part, specifically to Catherine for her achievements.”
In addition to receiving a cheque for £500, Catherine’s major contribution to the Bosieboo product launch should prove a valuable experience to build on in the future through the insight gained into the working processes involved in web based design.
