The List of Winners in the East Midlands Awards

Recognising success is vital to encouraging young people to remain in education and training. Here, please find the list of winners from the Learning and Skills Counsil’s (LSC’s) first annual Midlands Real Success Awards for Lincolnshire and Rutland, as described by FE News reporter Paul Keely.

The Winners

Apprentice of the Year Category; Apprenticeship Award, sponsored by Carter & Carter Group plc. Winner: Natalie Madison, aged 21, from Boston. Apprenticeship: Playwork Apprenticeship with learning provider Children’s Links at Hawthorn Tree Community Children’s Centre in Boston. This category rewards individuals exceeding their employers” or learning providers” expectations.

Advanced Apprenticeship Award, sponsored by Aim Higher East Midlands. Winner: Simon Poore. Aged 19, from Market Overton. Apprenticeship: Electrics and Electronics Advanced Apprenticeship with learning provider yes4business at DB Automatics in Oakham. This category rewards individuals exceeding their employers” or learning providers” expectations.

Personal Achiever of the Year; 19-24 Years Old Award. Winner: Thomas Parnell, aged 19, from Grantham. Apprenticeship: Industrial Applications Apprenticeship with learning provider yes4business at Paktronic Engineering Co. Ltd in Grantham. This category acknowledges individuals who exceed their employers” and learning providers” expectations by achieving success while dealing with difficulties on a personal or work level.

Employer of the Year; 10-49 Employees Award, sponsored by TNG Options. Winner: Strand Management in Grantham employing 34 people with eight currently undertaking Apprenticeships with learning provider yes4business of Grantham. This category acknowledges employers” commitment to developing young people through Apprenticeships.

50-249 Employees Award, sponsored by Connexions Leicester Shire. Winner: BGB Engineering Ltd in Grantham employing 52 people with four currently undertaking Apprenticeships with learning provider yes4business of Grantham. This category acknowledges employers” commitment to developing young people through Apprenticeships.

250+ Employees Award, sponsored by Stephenson College. Winner: CC&I (Corus Construction & Industrial) employing 5,819 people with 212 currently undertaking Apprenticeships with North Lindsey College in Scunthorpe. This category acknowledges employers” commitment to developing young people through Apprenticeships.

Work Experience Employer of the Year Award; 250+ Employees. Winner: Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery Ltd of Lincoln employing 2300 people with 57 students gaining work experience between September 2004 and September 2005. This category acknowledges employers” commitment to developing young people through work placements.
