Organisation presents findings of interim report

FE leaders across Wales have unanimously called for an end to red tape and bureaucracy in a bid to save public funds.

And as a result, ffworm, the national organisation representing FE colleges in Wales, set up the Bureaucracy and Red Tape Reduction Group, who yesterday presented their interim report at a national conference.

In a reference to English policy, Chair of the Bureaucracy and Red Tape Reduction Group, Jan Knight, noted: “Our approach has been very different from that taken by the UK Government in England”.

“I”m delighted that the Group has been able to draw on the expertise of senior figures not only from the FE colleges themselves but also from the Welsh Assembly Government”.

“Every member of the Group has shown a strong commitment to working together in order to ensure that the regulation of FE colleges” use of public money is done efficiently and effectively”.

According to a statement released last week, the Welsh Assembly Government “expects all public service providers to become increasingly more efficient every year”. In a drive to increase efficiency, red tape and bureaucracy have been highlighted as a distinct area to be tackled; and in the FE sector not just the reduction but how it is managed also.

Jan Knight continued: “Following positive discussions within the Group and supported by robust case studies undertaken as part of its research, the Group is today presenting its interim report to the governors of Wales” FE institutions”.

“Governors will be provided with the opportunity to discuss and debate the findings and shape the recommendations that will be published in the Group’s final report later in the year”.
