Media Oscars Awarded to Performing Arts and Media Students at WCC

Performing Arts and Media students at West Cheshire College (WCC) were awarded The Media Oscars, or “Moscars” to celebrate their achievements in a glamorous fashion, with some Oscar chutzpah.

The Moscars were held at the College’s Ellesmere Port campus and hosted by Student Union President Lee Mackin. Students who have impressed tutors this academic year were presented with one of 15 “Moscars” in categories such as Best Vocal Performer, Best Animation and Best Games Character. Each winner was presented with a fabulous silver Oscar style statuette, designed by Art and Design student John Kneale (42) from Ellesmere Port. The statuettes are based on the character Maria from Fritz Lang’s cult film “Metropolis.”

The winners for this year’s Moscars are: Ross Dowling (20) from Whitby, Joe Jolly (17) from Ellesmere Port and Prapatsara Chantana (28) from Chester for a Hair & Beauty promotion. Prapatsara also won the award for the best “Non-Narrative film or Video.” The award for the “Best Use of Sound in a Film or Video went to Sean Clarke (17) from Ellesmere Port; the award for “Best Action Sequence in a Video” went again to Ross Dowling, Richard Warrenger (20) from Ellesmere Port and Adam Painter (20) from Whitby.

The “Best Original Sequencing Composition” award went to Graham Travers (18) from Connah’s Quay; “Best Remix (sequencing) went to Andrew Morrissey (23) from Birkenhead, the “Best Studio Recording” went to Seb Kertland-Mills (18) from Boughton and Jon Couch (20) from Neston. In the musical section, the “Best Vocal Performance” went to Stephanie Wilson (20) from Ellesmere Port; “Best New Band” was Broken 3 Ways and “Best Song” went to Force Fed Fury.

The award for “Best 3D Character in a Game” went to Nick Alway (18) from Whitby; “Best 3D Animation” went to Alex Parperis (17) from Chester; “Best Full Motion Video Sequence” went to Matthew Beech (18) from Hawarden and “Best Level Design” went to Jason McGonigle (17) from Ellesmere Port.
