From education to employment

Oaklands College launch in Boreham Wood

Oaklands College officially opened in Borehamwood yesterday, alongside established sites in St Albans and Welwyn Garden City.

Courses offered will include English for Speakers of Other Languages, Adult Short Courses, Business, Construction and a range of other subject areas.

The Hertfordshire LEP has invested over £210k from the Local Growth Fund towards the fit-out of the learning centre, which includes a state-of-the-art construction workshop, to help tackle skills gaps identified by local businesses and YC Hertfordshire – Hertfordshire County Council’s youth support programme.

Principal Zoe Hancock said:

“This is an exciting opportunity to put Oaklands College back into the heart of the Borehamwood community and to help even more students reach their full potential. We look forward to welcoming students to our new learning centre.”

Adrian Hawkins, Deputy Chair of Hertfordshire LEP, said:

“We are working to ensure Hertfordshire businesses have access to the skilled and capable workforce they need in order to grow. With the help of our £210k investment, the new Oaklands College Borehamwood facility will deliver essential courses to tackle the recruitment challenges faced by growing sectors, including construction and care.”

The learning centre is housed on the ground floor of a four-storey building in Elstree Way, with 13 residential units occupying the remaining three floors. Oaklands College partnered with Taylor Wimpey to deliver these units, which were brought to market in March 2019 and include affordable housing, in association with Paradigm Housing Group.
