Havering College’s Apprenticeships showcased to Chinese visitors

Havering Colleges was proud to play host to a group of Chinese delegates during a fact-finding tour of the UK to gain information about our Apprenticeship schemes.

The visit, organised between the Department for International Trade and the Association of Colleges (AoC), involved a 14-strong delegation from the China Prosperity Fund, comprising of officials from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, plus college representatives. Also visiting was Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson’s Private Secretary, who joined the delegation in a shadowing role.

Our Ardleigh Green site was chosen for the group to visit because of the very good Apprenticeship provision provided here.

The delegates were given breakfast before listening to a presentation, through an interpreter, by Steve Lee, NCC and Havering’s Deputy Group Director for Apprenticeships and Business Development.

They then had a tour around the college’s Science labs and the Automotive and Electrical Installation workshops.

Steve said: “The delegation were particularly interested in looking at the Apprenticeships that we offer in the Auto and Electrical areas and they were keen to hear of the green technologies and hybrid vehicles we are developing. They were very impressed with our engagement with employers, which is something they said they need to improve in China.”

After their visit to Havering, the group travelled to the AoC head office in London before heading to a college in Birmingham.
