Former South Eastern Regional College Access Students receive Scholarship

Three women who previously studied the Access to University course at South Eastern Regional College (SERC) have earned a scholarship from Uversity.

Uversity’s Scholarships are intended to unlock adult learners’ potential.  By providing multi-annual financial support, Uversity’s Scholarships aim to remove the financial barriers to pursue a bachelor’s degree for the first time.  Scholarships enable individuals 23 years or older to complete a bachelor’s degree in participating institutions in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland.

Nadine Kittle, Vanessa Milliken, Nadine Savage’s drive to succeed and academic success on their course at SERC saw them recipients of a scholarship for adult learners which will give them the life changing opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree. All three have enrolled at Queen’s University Belfast.

Nadine Kittle is studying law. Nadine aspires to help vulnerable young people avoid criminal convictions after she receives her degree.

Nadine Savage is studying Adult Nursing to give back to the community and make a difference in people’s lives.

Vanessa Milliken is studying Computing and Information Technology, fulfilling a life-long dream of attending university. Vanessa received a High Commendation having scored an outstanding 85% in her Access to University (Fast Track) course at SERC. She wants her success at SERC, scholarship and degree to show her children everything they can achieve with a bit of self-belief, determination and preservation.

Elaine Bradley said, “These three women are perfect examples of people we see on our Access course at the College every year. They came to SERC seeking a new start, passionate about retraining and excited about the doors that would be unlocked on completion of their course.

She continued, “I am ecstatic that their hard work and determination made them recipients of the Uversity Scholarship, I wish them all the best on their courses. I am sure they will achieve great things.”
