Double Award for Rising Highway Engineer At Bath College’s Celebrating Success Awards

At Bath College’s recent Celebrating Success Awards, Peter King was recognised by the College as Distance Learning Student of the Year in front of his peers in the Guildhall, Bath. At this formal ceremony, Peter was also presented with the Best Project Award from the Institute of Highway Engineers.

When asked how he felt about the awards, Peter commented: “It’s a great feeling. It was such an honour to not only be recognised by Bath College but also by the IHE, the experts in my field.”

IHE’s CEO Richard Hayes commented: “The IHE’s Best Project Award acknowledges the considerable hard work and dedication the learner has made over a sustained period of their studies. The IHE sees Bath College as a key partner in providing the knowledge and skills the highway engineering sector so desperately needs in these challenging times.”

Peter studied by distance learning whilst working full-time for North Somerset Council as Senior Engineer in the Highways Operations team.  He achieved a BTEC Level 4 Professional Diploma in Highway Engineering which has helped him to progress in his career.  His tutor commented that his project work on customer satisfaction was very well researched and was a very effective way to measure the impact of policies and plans.

Bath College Distance Learning Manager, Rosaleen Courtney added: “The support from Peter’s employer, North Somerset Council, was very evident at our Celebrating Success Event.  His line manager, Phil Bush, joined in the celebrations and was clearly proud of Peter’s ability to study whilst working full-time and putting new ideas into practice. The impressive Guildhall venue in Bath was also special as Phil used to work there at the start of his career and it brought back happy memories.”
