From education to employment

Cambridge Regional College students pay their respects on Remembrance Day 2019

Students and staff paused for two minutes to pay respect to our Armed Forces community, past and present.

Remembrance Day 2019 saw members of the colege pack into our sports hall for the event which marks 100 years since the first two-minute silence was observed on Armistice Day, 11 November 1919.

Alongside those paying tribute at the service, other members of college staff were observing the two minutes silence in classrooms and at their desks.

This year, the Royal British Legion, asked the nation to pause by muting their phones, closing their laptops and turning off TV sets – for just two minutes – to observe the occasion.

A spokesman for the Royal British Legion said: “We remember those who lost their lives on active service in all conflicts; from the beginning of the First World War right up to the present day.

“We also remember all those who have served and their families.

“We pay tribute to the special contribution of families, as well as the emergency services.

“And we acknowledge those innocent civilians who have lost their lives in conflict and acts of terrorism.”
