Professor Shân Wareing joins the University of Northampton as Deputy Vice Chancellor
The University of Northampton is pleased to announce we have appointed a new Deputy Vice Chancellor – Professor Shân Wareing.
Shân will take up the post in November when she leaves London South Bank University, where she was also Deputy Vice Chancellor (Education) and Chief Operating Officer.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor has been appointed by the Board of Governors, and will provide strategic and academic leadership to deliver the University’s strategic goals – particularly in respect of delivering an excellent student experience.
In support of the Vice Chancellor, Shân will take line management responsibility for our Faculty Deans; the Dean of Learning and Teaching and the Dean of Research.
Shân’s initial teaching and research experience was in the fields of literature, language and linguistics. Her teaching roles included lecturing in English Language and Linguistics at Roehampton Institute London (University of Roehampton), and occasional lecturing on the Oxford University Continuing Education Programme.
She has held leadership roles in learning technologies and educational strategy at the University of the Arts London, and Royal Holloway (University of London), amongst others.
Shân has published in the fields of gender and stylistics, educational development, and leadership. She is a regular speaker on leadership and education for AdvanceHE, a contributor of presentations, blogs and podcasts to Higher Education think tanks such as Wonkhe and HEPI, and is an invited speaker at national and international events.
Speaking about her appointment, Shân said: “We live in interesting times for Higher Education, and the University of Northampton is strongly placed to meet the challenges and stand out as exceptional. I’m very proud that I am going to be part of the University, and look forwards to joining staff and students.”
