OPEN STUDY COLLEGE LAUNCHES CIPD COURSES TO BOOST HR TALENT

Samantha Rutter, CEO at Open Study College

Distance learning provider Open Study College has added CIPD Diplomas to its portfolio of courses, providing a flexible option for people looking to boost their competency in human resources.

CIPD Diplomas are respected qualifications within the HR industry, offering those who achieve them the prospect of career advances within the profession, or the opportunity to move into a HR career.

The courses will be delivered via a choice of purely online, classroom or blended learning, which involves face-to-face workshops as well as digital delivery. Levels 3, 5 and 7 CIPD Diplomas are now available for enrolment.

All students will have access to a personal tutor who will provide support and guidance and act as a point of contact throughout their period of study.

Commenting on the addition of the HR courses, Open Study College’s CEO, Samantha Rutter, said:

“We’re delighted to be able to offer the CIPD Diplomas as they really do open doors for people looking to get into HR and recruitment, and for ambitious practitioners already in the sector and looking to get ahead.

“Flexible learning is what we’re all about, and these new courses bring more options for anyone who would struggle to commit to full-time study, whether it’s because of work, family or other commitments.”

The Level 3 Diploma will provide newcomers to the industry with a basic grounding in the principles and practices of HR. Students will undertake eight units and emerge ready to apply for entry-level roles including HR assistant and HR co-ordinator.

Level 5 offers a more advanced syllabus and is aimed at HR professionals looking to progress to a management position. Modules including Employment Law and Employee Engagement will prepare them for roles such as HR manager or HR adviser.

For those aiming for top-level positions including HR director, the Level 7 Diploma teaches subjects including Managing Employment Relations, Talent Management and Organisation Development.

Emma Graves is Head of HR at the HR & Employment Law agency Absolute Works. She explained the difference that CIPD has made to her career:

“My passion for HR started when I completed work experience in an automotive personnel department. I then did a BA Honours in Human Resources at university.

“Throughout my degree, I became aware of the importance of CIPD and how recognised the accreditation is within the HR arena. Even with a high classification degree in HR, there was still a need to have this degree benchmarked against the CIPD qualification. I completed my CIPD qualification through night school at university and never looked back. I feel that being affiliated with the CIPD has helped me reach this point in my career.”

Graves added: “When recruiting, I primarily look for candidates that are either CIPD-qualified or working towards a CIPD qualification. This demonstrates that they meet the standards of the CIPD and that they are committed to their HR career.”

In a similar move to bolster its advanced career development offering, Open Study College announced the addition of ACCA and CIMA accredited accountancy courses earlier this year.
