Students From Around the Globe Learn About Local Heritage

West Cheshire College students were given the opportunity to learn about Chester’s history and heritage, following a visit from a representative from the Duke of Westminster’s Estate.
The International Study Centre (ISC) in Handbridge is largely made up of students from overseas including Spain, Thailand, Japan, China, Germany, Lithuania and Iraq. The pupils, many of whom are learning English as a second language, welcomed guest speaker Mr Nick Jones who delivered a talk about the Duke of Westminster’s Estate and its past.
Mary Ann Cameron from the ISC said: “We try and invite guest speakers to the ISC as often as possible. Not only do they give the students an insight into an aspect of life in Chester, but they also expose them to a language experience and enhance their cultural awareness.
“This is important as some of the students are going to live in Chester permanently. Others are here for a year or more to learn English to help them in their careers at home, so they benefit from hearing other people speak English.”
