Generous Donation Enables Havant Students to Work With Cutting Edge #Robotic Technology
HSDC students have been the recipients of a very special donation from local manufacturer Harwin plc. Harwin plc is an Engineering and Manufacturing company specialising in the innovative design and production of electrical components, with offices in the UK, USA, Germany, France and Asia.
In September 2018 HSDC launched the Harwin Academy, giving students the chance to get an internationally recognised Engineering qualification, alongside gaining experience working at the Portsmouth based head office of the global company. Since this time the relationship between HSDC and Harwin has grown from strength to strength and culminated on Friday 20th September in Harwin donating one of their 6-axes robots to the college.
At the presentation of the robot, Harwin’s chairman Damon de Laszlo said:
“I believe Britain’s future place in the world depends on our ability to advance our skills in robotics and artificial intelligence, particularly in British manufacturing. It is critical that modern engineering students are trained in computer coding and robotics to meet future challenges that face this country”.
Damon was joined at the presentation by Alan Mak, Conservative MP for Havant. Alan said:
“It’s Great to see a growing local education provider working hand in hand with a world leading engineering and manufacturing business, this really is a model for others to follow and I think they have some very exciting times ahead. This is really cutting-edge technology and is a great opportunity for students at HSDC to be working with a world leading company and also experiencing first-hand the technology that is shaping the future of our economy both here and around the world”.
The new 6-axes robot will be an integral part of the learning environment for HSDC students now and in the future.
