Two LSC Sponsored Awards Go to Colleges in North – West

“

Bridgwater College in Somerset, and Blackpool and the Flyde College in Lancashire last week gained two Learning and Skills Council (LSC) sponsored awards as recognition for their engagement with employers in the case of the former, and commitments to equality and diversity in the case of the latter.

Bridgwater College in Somerset won the LSC award for creating a business development unit offering a variety of valuable training and work-based learning resources. It was particularly commended for strengthening ties with employers-an effective method of increasing the number of people equipped with practical skills that can be applied directly in the workplace.

Blackpool and the Flyde College were honoured with the Equality and Diversity award for its efforts to tackle underachieving young men and its work to eradicate homophobia. The college was praised for its effective integration of equal opportunity policies and for outstanding staff training and development.

LSC Recognise Innovative Excellence

Mark Haysom, LSC Chief Executive, congratulated the winners remarking that the Beacon Awards were a “welcome recognition of the innovation and imagination” that assists the LSC in achieving its vision of “a network of colleges that put learners and employers first and operate as the nerve centre of the skills agenda.”

He described the two areas in which these colleges gained awards as being “at the heart of our ambitions for the transformation of the FE sector” and vital for the LSC to attain its twin aims of “improving productivity and promoting social inclusion.”
