Enterprising Barking & Dagenham College students raise money for charity

As part of their Enterprise and Entrepreneurship studies the students split into two groups.  Each planned and ran social enterprises with the aim of making a profit to support charities that work with the homeless and vulnerable people in the local community. 

As a result over £200 was raised for the SDA and Barking and Dagenham Foodbank.  In addition students also volunteered their time to visit a local hostel, taking fruit and sweets and spending time chatting with people staying there.

Marcia Mendoza from the SDA charity said:

“I am so thankful to the students for their support.  It came exactly at the right time to enable the charity to continue with a project that was very much needed in the community. I know many people have benefited from their financial support and their visits. We cannot thank them enough. They are a credit to the College.”

Their tutor, Giuditta Meneghetti, added:  “It’s been a pleasure working with such an amazing group of young people.  Throughout their time at the College, they have focused on ‘giving back’ by running a number of projects which enabled them to gain much more than a well-earned qualification. I feel privileged to have been their teacher and would like to wish them all the best for the future.”
