From education to employment

Well done to Nottingham College A Level students!

Hundreds of eager Nottingham College A Level students queued up to collect their results from the College’s High Pavement Sixth Form yesterday (Thursday 15th August).

Among those celebrating their success are 18-year-old twin sisters Jessica and Heather Daniels who received six A’s and one B grade between them, and are now both off to Nottingham Trent University. Heather will be studying Biomedical Science and Jessica, a degree in Criminology. Heather said: “I’m happy that we both achieved the grades we needed to get into university. Now I’m excited to get started on my degree, and one day I’d love to work in cancer research.”

Aspiring producer/director Shakirah Jelley, 19, from Bulwell, wants to use her personal experiences of mental health to support others. Despite suffering with anxiety and depersonalisation disorder, her hard work and determination paid off. She now has the grades she needs to progress to Nottingham Trent University to study Media Production. She said: “I feel really good about my results, and my family are so pleased for me. I especially want to thank Zoe and Laura, two of my lecturers, as they’ve been absolutely amazing – two of the best teachers I’ve ever had!”

Simranjeet Singh, 20, from Bilborough, exceeded his expectations with three A*s and one A grade in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths. He is hoping to study medicine. He said: “I’m very excited to receive these results as it means I’m a step closer to reaching my dream career in medicine. I’m really interested in how the brain works so eventually I’d like to specialise in neurology.”

Also, one student achieved the accolade of highest performer in OCR’s A Level Geography and has secured a place at the University of Oxford.

Head of Nottingham College High Pavement Sixth Form, Jeannette Mortimer, said: “Despite the gruelling two-year programme this year, our dedicated staff have worked tirelessly to support and encourage our students, ensuring they all reach their potential and are able to progress to the next stage of their journey, whether that’s a higher level course at College or university, an apprenticeship, or employment.

“We’re so proud of our students and wish them all the very best for the future.”
