University of Chester offers top Clearing tips for A-Level results day
With A-level results day just around the corner, the University of Chester is all set to help students make the most of Clearing.
The Clearing process allows students to apply for university courses that still have vacancies and can serve as an excellent opportunity for those who may have reconsidered their opportunities, or may not have secured a place at their preferred university.
“There might be lots of reasons why you might choose Clearing,” explains Ric Bengree, Director of Marketing, Recruitment and Admissions.
“Perhaps you applied after the June 30 deadline or you haven’t applied yet. Maybe you didn’t receive any offers, or have decided you no longer want to accept the offers you have. Perhaps things won’t quite go to plan on results day. Whatever your reason, Clearing is a great opportunity to start afresh and apply for a 2023 university course.”
To help prospective students in the lead up to August 17, the Admissions team at the University of Chester has released a handy guide of top tips to ensure they are fully prepared for results day – whatever the outcome.
“We know that waiting for your A-Level results can be a stressful time,” adds Ric.
“Making the most of your summer and keeping busy will help minimise any anxiety you may feel, but another way to distract yourself is to plan ahead. Even if you’re feeling confident about your results, it doesn’t hurt to have a back-up plan.”
One of Ric’s top tips is to ‘prepare for the best possible outcome and the worst-case scenario’ by looking at all your options and talking them through with a parent/carer or somebody who has been through this experience themselves.
Here are some more helpful pointers for how to get the most out of results day:
Prepare for all Outcomes: Regardless of your expectations, consider all available options and discuss them with a parent, guardian, or someone experienced in the university application process.
Be Available: Make sure you’re available on results day, as UCAS communicates directly with applicants. Put off any plans with friends and family to stay prepared.
Stay Informed: If the UCAS Hub doesn’t show a decision by mid-morning, there’s no need to panic. Contact the university directly to check your status.
Celebrate Your Success: If you meet the grades for your firm offer, celebrate your accomplishment and wait for the confirmation email from your university.
Explore New Opportunities: If your grades exceed expectations, consider enquiring about courses with higher entry requirements.
Adapt to the Results: If your grades aren’t as expected, contact your firm choice university for their view. They may accept you or discuss potential options like alternative subjects or Foundation Year courses.
Ric added: “Whatever happens on results day, make the most of every opportunity that comes your way. There are always lots of fantastic options available to you.”
Professor Eunice Simmons, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Chester, said:
“We wish the best of luck to everyone awaiting their A-Level and Vocational results and those who are considering taking their next steps into higher education.
“At the University of Chester we are passionate about empowering our students to become agile and confident graduates equipped with all of the knowledge, skills and experience they need to play an important role within their professions and wider society.”
