Major review of #apprenticeships across the Creative and Design sectors launched

Today (31 July) the Institute has launched a major review of apprenticeships across the Creative and Design sectors.

The review starts with an eight-week consultation, closing on the 24 September.

Anyone with an interest in the development of these apprenticeships including employers, providers and apprentices, are encouraged to get involved in the consultation.

In particular, how the apprenticeships are working and where improvements can be made.

Ana Osbourne, Deputy Director for Approvals at the Institute, said:

“I would like to thank all of the Creative and Design employers and stakeholders who helped develop the broad variety of apprenticeships we have in place so far. We’re looking forward to seeing responses to the consultation, which will be crucially important in helping to inform the review.”

“The focus of the review will be to improve the quality of our apprenticeships and ensure they are fully up to date with apprenticeship requirements and the needs of both apprentices and employers. This will ensure they’re well placed to serve the Creative and Design sector for years to come.”

Recommendations to result from the review will be announced in early 2020.

Iain Smith, co-chair of the Institute’s Creative and Design Route Panel of sector experts, said:

The 15 standards being considered under this review are:

1. Bespoke Tailor and Cutter;
2. Watchmaker;
3. Spectacle maker;
4. Junior Journalist;
5. Outside Broadcast Engineer;
6. Live Event Rigger;
7. Assistant Technical Director – visual effects;
8. Junior 2D Artist – visual effects;
9. Broadcast Production Assistant;
10. Creative Venue Technician;
11. Junior Content Producer;
12. Bespoke Saddler;
13. Organ builder;
14. Live Event Technician;
15. Publishing Assistant.

The first Route Review was on Digital Apprenticeships. The recommendations from the reviews were announced in May. 

The Institute launched its second Route Review for Hair and Beauty on Monday 29 July.
