Nominations open for mia’s Academic Achievement Awards 2019
(2018 Student Award Winner: Rhys Gillard)
Nominations have opened for the Meeting Industry Association’s (mia) 2019 Academic Achievement Awards.
Open to students who have completed a degree level event management course, the awards are designed to recognise the talent and excellence of those about to embark on a career in the sector.
Course tutors can each nominate one undergraduate and one postgraduate student for the ‘Rising Star’ award. The accolade is designed to recognise individuals who have performed at levels beyond their contemporaries and have exceptional understanding of the industry.
Entries will be judged by mia Board members who will decide on the two winners. All nominees will be given a £250 voucher for professional development events offered by the mia as well as a certificate recognising their potential.
Each ‘Rising Star’ winner will receive the same as the nominees, alongside an invite to the annual miaList celebratory lunch with their tutor where they will pick up their award, and a complimentary place at the next mia conference.
The awards, now in their third year, are part of the mia’s continued strategy to recognise talent and promote best practice in the sector.
Jane Longhurst, chief executive of the mia, said: “The Academic Achievement Awards are a great way to show the next generation that their contribution is valued, as well as help attract and retain talent within the sector.
“We also recognise that if we are to secure the very best talent to take the business meetings and events industry into the future, it is important that we highlight and reward exceptional candidates at the beginning of their careers too.”
The mia 2019 Academic Achievement Awards are open to anyone who has completed a BA, BSc, MA or MSc in the area of event management. Educational institutions should submit nominations for the undergraduate award by 2 August 2019. The deadline for the post-graduate award is 30 September 2019.
