Deal worth £245 million over five years.

The LSC has named Capgemini as its main IT supplier in a new contract believed to be worth £245 million over the next five years.
The deal will cover the provision of IT infrastructure and support for around 3,000 desktop users. In addition, they will provide a wide-area network connecting regional offices. Internal and external telephone services and the development of bespoke applications are also included in the contract.
The deal is expected to be finalised within a month’s time and Capgemini will begin to take over services from the existing suppliers Fujitsu and Xansa whose contracts expire in the spring. They both had put forward unsuccessful bids for the contract awarded to Capgemini
The French based company has been building up a reputation as provider of IT services in the education policy sector. In July, it was awarded a hosting and support contract for the Department for Children, Schools and Families ContactPoint system, the national system for identity checks on children and vulnerable people. Capgemini has worked with DCSF on the system since its inception providing consulting, advice and project management.
Capgemini has also previously worked with Connexions, the Government funded careers and guidance service, on their database system, Connexions Service National Unit (CSNU) to provide better access to and distribution of information.
