From Fellow to OBE – Borders College Honorary Fellow Doddie Weir is honoured by his latest award

Borders College Honorary Fellow Doddie Weir has been awarded his OBE by Her Majesty the Queen at a ceremony in Edinburgh today.

Doddie had a hugely successful rugby career that saw him earn 61 caps for Scotland and received his Honorary Fellowship at the College Graduation in September 2018.

Doddie, who announced he has motor neurone disease (MND) in 2017, is being honoured for services to rugby, MND research and the Borders community.

He set up the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation to raise funds for research and provide grants to help those affected by MND. The foundation has been supported by a number of charity events organised by Borders College students over the last year.

Commenting on his OBE Doddie said, it was a “great honour” to be recognised by the Queen.

A spokesperson for Borders College said “Our warmest congratulations and best wishes go to Doddie on receiving his OBE”.
