UK Employability Day 2019 is here! #EmpDay19

Today (28 June) is the fourth UK Employability Day, the largest celebration for organisations supporting local people into employment.

Hundreds of charities, businesses and public sector bodies will throw open their doors to raise awareness about how they support local people to gain, sustain and progress in work. The day is coordinated by ERSA, the representative body for the employment support sector.

This year, organisations are highlighting how they are closing the gaps by supporting disadvantaged people into work. Whilst overall employment is high in the UK, there are still significant disparities between groups in terms of employment rates and pay.

For example, disadvantaged young people are twice as likely to be NEET (not in education, employment or training) as their better off peers; disabled women earn on average 22 per cent less than non-disabled men; and ethnic minorities are 12 per cent less likely to be in employment than white British people.

UK Employability Day is a day of recognition for those working tirelessly to close employment gaps between groups by helping local people into employment. Every day, thousands of organisations across the country help to transform the lives of individuals and their communities. Today is their chance to celebrate their hard work.
