#STEM support from Schneider Electric inspires electricians of the future
Uxbridge College students gifted with product donations to support further education and training in the field.
In a bid to support the training of the next generation of electricians, Schneider Electric visited students at Uxbridge College at the end of May to talk about life in the industry and to gift them with a variety of products to support their training.
The visit centered around developing technology – and how solutions to our electrical and energy needs must keep pace with changing technology. Schneider Electric gifted the college with a wide variety of wiring and lighting accessories, cable management lengths, cable lengths and three consumer units to support its students with their learning and education in the sector.
On site, the Schneider Electric team presented the role they play in helping businesses to make the most out of their energy with smart, stylish and sustainable products.
Nico Van Der Merwe, VP of Home and Distribution at Schneider Electric said that
“The UK is in the midst of a skills shortage – and we need to act now if we’re to plug this skills gap. Every business is responsible for training the next generation of engineers, electricians and contractors. It is our duty to break down stereotypes associated with these roles, and show today’s young people the impact that these specialists can have on our world today.”
“We are passionate about working with the wider community – and our work with Uxbridge College is just one example. I’m pleased that we’ve been able to showcase our solutions to these students – and to show them what they actually do, and how they incorporate modern technologies. Technology is impacting every industry – and the electrical industry is one of them. This is why technology and engineering training is vital to futureproof the industry. We look forward to working with Uxbridge College again in the future”, continued Nico.
Neil Benjamin-Miller, Head of School for Engineering, Technology and Innovations at Uxbridge College said,
“We thoroughly enjoyed our visit from Schneider Electric. Days like this inspire our young people to focus and commit themselves to the world of STEM learning – and it’s important that we offer this exposure to the world of work to our young people. Showcasing to them what these roles are all about, and the impact they can have on the world around them can really help to break down any pre-formed stereotypes and perceptions. We’re looking forward to being able to use the products that Schneider Electric has gifted to us and to learning more about the industry.”
