Borders College committed to investing in staff
Borders College ISLT department have demonstrated their commitment to investing in staff by taking on an apprentice through the invaluable QA Modern Apprenticeships scheme.
Teigan Scobbie, who is 18 and from Earlston, has just been appointed by Borders College in an exciting IT role, which will provide the team and the College with an additional resource to assist and support staff and students.
The role will involve her manning the frontline ‘helpdesk’, where staff and student IT and facilities issues are dealt with or processed and sent to the appropriate department. She will also be involved in various other roles within the department and will gain a vital insight into how ISLT operate as a whole.
Previously a student at Borders College, Teigan studied on the HNC Fashion Make-up course before going on to work with Kelso business ‘Nails by G’, where she worked as a beautician. During her higher studies at College she took a particular interest in the business side of the course. This led to a career-changing decision.
Since joining the College, Teigan has shown great enthusiasm and taken a keen interest in the roles played by other members of staff, and how she can assist them within her post. She hopes to further develop her role in the near future by undertaking technical IT courses and gaining more experience within the ISLT team.
Teigan commented:
“I am very excited to be starting my new role as a Modern Apprentice with Borders College. Having previously worked as a beautician, I know the importance of customer service and the positive impact this can have. Working on the helpdesk and with ISLT as a whole will allow me to develop these skills. I’m looking forward to working with staff and students in the near future and also developing my skills and knowledge.”
Head of ISLT Scott Moncrieff commented:
“Since starting her role with the ISLT department Teigan has shown great interest and enthusiasm for the job. She has settled in very well in her short time with us and I am sure she will be a great asset to the ISLT team and indeed the College during her time here. We believe customer service is just as important as providing the technical knowledge and advice to staff and students within the college and our new apprentice has the skills required for this. As a new member of staff we hope that she will develop in her role and become a vital part of the ISLT team. The Modern Apprenticeship scheme is excellent at helping employers developing their workforce”
