Havant & South Downs College students host free Alien cinema event at Fort Purbrook
Students from Havant & South Downs College (HSDC) are hosting a FREE cinema event for students and the local community to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the iconic film Alien whilst highlighting the importance of film in education.
The evening, taking place on 6 June at Fort Purbrook, will be a night of fun for all horror and sci-fi fans of the Alien franchise, with music performances by DJ Alex Cheng and indie band Sven. For audience members wishing to immerse themselves in a real ‘underground alien infestation’ there will be a Zombies vs Aliens experience conducted by the renowned paranormal company, Dark Encounters.
The event is funded by The Southern Universities Network (SUN) – a collaborative partnership comprising higher education providers in Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. The SUN provides outreach activities for schools and colleges offering students informed choices about their progression opportunities in the creative media industries. The evening will demonstrate the many pathways that young people can choose to work in an exciting and successful environment, such as the creative media industries.
The cinema project has been a live brief for HSDC second year Level 3 Extended Diploma Creative Media Production students to encourage young people to think about entering the film industry and its diverse roles. The project is designed to develop critical, reflective, problem solving and independent learning skills, complementary to the technical knowledge in order for them to pursue their careers in this exciting sector.
Tickets are free to audiences aged 15+ only. Doors will open at 7pm and the screening of the film will begin at 9.30pm.
