Barking & Dagenham College students got the chance to experience what it is like to be Scene of Crime Officers, when they took part in a Forensic Science activity.

The students are studying applied science at the College.  As part of their Forensic Science module, the students got to learn about investigating crime scenes.  They had to don protective clothing before setting about processing the ‘crime scene’ – which was set up to be for a ‘suspicious death’.  This involved finding things such as concealed murder weapons.  With all the processing done, the students then had to write up a full report detailing what they had found.

The activity was co-ordinated by Barking & Dagenham College’s STEM Development Curriculum Manager, Errol Seaman and assessed by Errol and Michelle Benjamin, a science lecturer at the College.  Michelle said: “All the students thoroughly enjoyed the assessment. They played the part of crime scene officers very well.  They acted professionally and were determined to do well and find out as much as they could from processing the scene.  I was very proud of them all.”
