West Cheshire College Students win Young Enterprise Award for past 2 years

Students from West Cheshire College are celebrating after winning a Young Enterprise award for the second year running.

The group of 11 Team Enterprise students competed against other schools and Colleges from the area to retain the Best Trade Stand award at the Chester Area Board Young Enterprise Trade Fair, held at Chester Guild Hall. They also walked away with second prize in the Customer Care Category.

The Team Enterprise programme is a schools and colleges initiative designed to give young people, with a range of learning support needs, practical experience of running their own company, supported by their tutors and volunteer business advisors. The group’s stand displayed products from their business “Sew n” Sow” which produces and sells plant displays and sewn products such as hats, scarves and table runners.

They were judged by a panel of representatives from local businesses Marks & Spencer, MBNA and Chester City Council. They were judged on how they dealt with demands from customers, visual impact, information displayed on the stand, product quality, sales technique, team spirit and unique features.

Tutor Cath Champion said: “We tried to create as realistic a business environment as possible for our students and have received lots of compliments on our standard of work, the quality of the plants we use, our reasonable prices and our customer care.

“I”m delighted that the team managed to win awards again because they work very hard and deserve to be successful. They are a credit to West Cheshire College!”
