300 Secondary Pupils enjoy the Fife College Annual Christmas Lectures

Bang, fizz and pop ““ just some of the effects enjoyed by secondary pupils who attended the annual Christmas Science lecture organised by Fife College recently.

Over 300 pupils from schools throughout Fife attended the exciting and lively lecture, which was held in St. Brycedale Kirk opposite Fife College in Kirkcaldy.

Dr. Jason Lynam, a Chemistry Lecturer from York University was guest speaker at this year’s event giving pupils an insight into modern chemistry. By using a range of interesting, visual and sometimes noisy experiments Jason explained to pupils how chemistry affects our everyday lives.

Said John Whitelock, Team Leader for Applied Sciences, “The lectures are a fun way of bringing Chemistry to life. This helps pupils gain a better understanding of the chemistry that is around us, and how it can be used to improve the lives of people throughout the world. We also hope that it will encourage some pupils to study Chemistry or a Science related subject once they leave school. At Fife College we have an amazing range of lab facilities which certainly impressed Dr Lynam who takes his Chemistry lectures to many colleges throughout the country.”
