Barnsley College Higher Education Students stage double bill for one day only

The company is run by Barnsley College Higher Education BA (Hons) Acting for Touring Theatre students and they will take to the stage for one day only at the Electric Theatre on Wednesday 10 April at 1.30pm and 7.00pm.

This touring version of D.N.A follows a group of young people who accidentally commit a serious crime and attempt to cover it up. Kelly named the play as a nod to the question posed within its content, is it nature or nurture that rules us all? This play is listed as study material for English Literature GCSE and A Level courses.

The touring version of Road explores the lives of the people who live in an un-named road, in a deprived area in a time of high unemployment in the north of England. This dark comedy is a passionate, poetic and positive portrayal of working class life. This play is listed as study material for A Level Drama.

Peter Lawton, Higher Education Pathway Leader for Media, Music and Performing Arts at Barnsley College, said:

“By telling the D.N.A story through the guise of young people, we’re looking at the entirety of society’s response towards cruelty, empathy, pack mentality, and some would even say bullying. Complimentary to D.N.A’s exposé of society, Road, despite its explicit nature, is considered extremely effective in portraying the desperation of people’s lives at the time, as well as containing a great deal of humour.

“We would encourage students studying towards GCSE or A Level English Literature and A Level Drama to take advantage of the opportunity to see a live performance of these plays. Our very talented actors have worked incredibly hard to do these plays justice and they truly deserve your support.”

Tickets do not need to be purchased beforehand and are on a ‘pay what you feel’ basis with all proceeds going towards the students’ final acting showcase that will be held in Manchester on May 30.
