SERC Students’ Union sign up to Red Box NI Project

South Eastern Regional College (SERC) Students’ Union have signed up to the Red Box Project NI which aims to provide free menstrual product for students across all their Campuses.

Catherine Shipman, Student Engagement Manager at SERC said, “Our elected student union representatives identified a need from our students for access to freely available sanitary products on each campus. Sadly, many students are missing vital days of their education because they cannot access these products due to financial or other constraints.

“We see this as a first step in developing further initiatives and services for our students here at SERC which will help alleviate some issues and barriers to a full education.  

She added, “We are grateful to the Red Box Project NI who provide the personal care products that we will make available for students to access freely as required.”

The Red Box Project was founded in March 2017 by three friends in Portsmouth who wanted to give young people in their local area access to sanitary products. After reading about ‘period poverty’ in the news, they were angered at the idea that young women were missing out on their education because they couldn’t afford the products they needed during their period.
