New Opportunities to Go Further for East Sussex College Students
During the last year, over 1,200 local students have been benefitting from a brand new project set up to help build confidence and fulfil ambitions.
The East Sussex College Group delivers the ‘Go Further’ project which provides tailored help with subjects, such as maths; and matches students with relevant mentors who are able to encourage and direct students on their next steps.
The project also ensures that all students receive pastoral support and provides funds for students to visit universities and places of work to help them understand what life might be like after school or college.
Dan Shelley, Executive Director, Strategic Partnerships, and Engagement, East Sussex College said: “We’re really proud to see this project reaching so many young people, helping them to raise their aspirations and realise that university is achievable after college.
We’re also delighted to hear that funding has been secured to enable the initiative to continue into a second year, thanks to a successful first year.”
Go Further is one of 19 projects across Sussex being funded through the Sussex Learning Network (SLN) as part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP). There are 29 national partnerships currently receiving NCOP funds from the Office for Students to encourage learners to fulfil their educational potential.
The SLN is exceeding the national targets and is reaching out to many more students than was initially expected through projects similar to Go Further.
Amber Rudd, MP for Hastings and Rye, said: “I am delighted that our local National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP) has greatly exceeded their target of engaging young people access higher education. I am pleased that the NCOP are operating in our area and are clearly making a strong impact”
East Sussex College also offers its own range of higher education and university-level courses. Its three campuses in Eastbourne, Hastings, and Lewes offers students the opportunity to stay local, take advantage of lower tuition fees, and have access to great facilities and dedicated time with their tutor.
