CBI celebrates National Apprenticeship Week #NAW2019 and National Careers Week #NCW2019

This week, the CBI celebrated the twelfth annual National Apprenticeship Week and National Careers Week, with a programme of activity showcase the range of careers young people can think about and the retraining opportunities adults can consider.

To start the week, CBI Head of Education & Skills Policy, John Cope, spoke alongside Chair of the Education Select Committee, Robert Halfon MP, Emma Hardy MP, and Will Wragg MP at the official launch of National Careers Week. During the parliamentary event, John spoke about the changing world of work, and the need for careers advice to modernise to reflect this.

Many businesses already experience the positive benefits of apprentices, with most apprentices gaining full-time employment, a win-win for both biz and individuals.

In addition to this parliamentary event, the CBI has been engaging with political stakeholders including the Education and Skills team at Number 10 and the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Apprentices to discuss the state of play on skills. Further to this, John and the Education team have continued to make the case for further apprenticeship reform.

Finally, the CBI has been using social media to showcase some of the great apprenticeship opportunities that its members offer. This included a ‘Twitter takeover’ of the CBI Education & Skills account by several firms and colleges throughout the week.
