Borders College’s Doddie Weir Charity Dinner delivers four-figure dividend
The much talked about Doddie Weir Charity Dinner, which was hosted by Borders College, has been hailed as a huge success, with a four-figure sum being raised for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
The event got off to a fantastic start with guests greeted by Doddie, resplendent as always, in one of his famous tartan suits.
During his welcome, Doddie gave guests an insight into the events which followed his recent fall, and in true Doddie style he went on to admit he found his stay in hospital “very enjoyable”. Doddie then handed over to master of ceremonies Bruce Aitchison, Hawick High School depute headteacher and rugby aficionado, who was not to be outdone by Doddie and came dressed in his own fabulous tartan suit! Bruce brilliantly kept the evening on track and kept everyone entertained with his stories and humour.
Guests were treated to six courses of exquisite dishes, made from the very best of local Border’s produce, all prepared and served by College Catering and Hospitality students. Following the meal, Bruce took to the floor again for the Charity Auction. Items, including a Glasgow top signed by Stuart Hogg, were auctioned off raising more than £1,200.
As the evening drew to a close, Bruce thanked event sponsors Sharc Heating Systems and Genius Brewing for their support. He also thanked the students and staff for their professional service throughout the evening.

However, I’d like to give a special thanks to Doddie for taking the time to come along and support the event, and Bruce for kindly accepting the role of Master of Ceremonies.”
The event raised a total of £3,360, which was presented to Doddie by representatives of the students involved.
