Clarendon Sixth Form College students soak up sights and sounds in Berlin

History, film and media students from Clarendon Sixth Form College headed to Berlin recently to learn more about Europe’s cultural capital.

Students spent five days exploring the city, with film and media students visiting the Berlin film festival and history students touring the many sites around the city.

Film and media students attended the festival to see several short films nominated for awards. They were also given exclusive access to meet with directors, producers and actors who were able to give the students valuable ideas.

History students were also given a tour of the city, which included a visit to the Brandenburg gate, holocaust memorial, checkpoint Charlie and more to learn about the city’s rich past.

James Shenton, media teacher at Clarendon Sixth Form College, said: “This was the first time we have attended an international film festival and the experience was amazing. To see films before official release and to ask directors questions is a rare opportunity for students. The students enjoyed experiencing Berlin’s history as well as its modern outlook.”

Courtney Blanchard, media student at Clarendon Sixth Form College, said: “I liked the historical element of Berlin such as seeing the Berlin Wall, as it has always been a dream of mine to see it in person. It’s like nowhere else in the world really and that’s what made the trip so good for me.”

Clarendon Sixth Form College regularly organises trips and events for students to learn outside the classroom.
