From education to employment

Congratulations to Heart of Worcestershire College on becoming a Beacon Finalist!

Staff and students at Heart of Worcestershire College (HoW College) are celebrating their success after becoming a finalist in the prestigious Association of Colleges (AoC) Beacon Awards for ‘Effective Use of Digital Technology in Further Education’.

This year, HoW College’s award submission focused on the ‘Element’s program- developing 21st century skills and the institution-wide approach to blended learning. They were reviewed within their individual award category by a highly experienced team of independent assessors, where they were granted success in reaching the AoC (Association of Colleges) Beacon standard and finalist status.

The Association of Colleges’ Beacon Awards celebrate the best and most innovative practice among UK colleges each year. The award supported by Jisc celebrates an outstanding example of the use of technology carefully designed to improve the student experience in a digital age. It could be targeted at specific age groups or for widespread use across the college.

Speaking about begin shortlisted Amy Hollier, Director of Blended & Online Learning at HoW College, said:

‘We are delighted to have been shortlisted in the AoC Beacon Awards for Effective Use of Technology. This award nomination recognises the innovative Elements blended learning programme that HoW have created to develop crucial 21st century skills of all of our learners such as problem solving, communication and critical thinking, whilst also developing digital literacy. We are confident the Elements blended learning programme empowers HoW learners to thrive in a digital work place.’

Mark White OBE DL, Chair of AoC’s Charitable Trust said:

“The AoC Beacon Awards showcase exactly why colleges are so important to every community and why people value them. This award celebrates an outstanding example of the use of technology and the work of the finalists in going above and beyond.”

HoW College is delighted to be named as a finalist college in the AoC Beacon Awards this year. They look forward to hearing the announcement of the award winners in Spring 2023.
