CBI attends World Economic Forum in Davos

This week Carolyn Fairbairn, CBI Director General, and Rain Newton-Smith, CBI Chief Economist, attended the World Economic Forum in Davos. This year’s Forum centred around the theme of Globalisation 4.0: Shaping a Global Architecture in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The CBI attends the Davos to highlight the value of business in society and to engage with CBI members who also attend and stakeholders across the world. As part of Davos, the CBI hosts the British Business Leaders Lunch and this year the Chancellor, Philip Hammond, spoke about the UK’s standing as a world leader and went on to commit to future-proofing UK economy for fourth industrial revolution which included announcing a £100 million investment for research and technology.

Brexit featured heavily in Davos and Rain used a media article featured on the World Economic Forum’s website to highlight the impacts of Brexit on the business community. She emphasised how a no deal would be catastrophic for the economy, for jobs and livelihoods around the UK and went on to discuss the importance of unlocking regional growth before touching on global challenges such as climate change and migration.

Also discussing EU Negotiations was Carolyn and Rain’s meeting with the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Economy, Mr Kris Peeters and the King of Belgium to discuss EU Negotiations.
