South West College to participate in COP27 virtual session

Following the delivery of a key note session on Sustainable Buildings at the COP26 conference in Glasgow in November 2021, South West College has been invited to participate in a virtual session as part of COP27 currently underway in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt on Saturday 12th November.

Dr Barry McCarron, Interim Head of Business Development for South West College the current Chairperson of the Passive House Association of Ireland will participate in the discussion titled, ‘The future of building: Supporting Passive House training uptake at higher education institutions.’ Dr McCarron will be joined by Dr Wolfgang Feis, Founder of the Passive House Institute, Susanne Winkel, Head of Professional Certification and Training, Yogini Patel, Head of Campaigns, PassivHaus Trust and Robert Spencer, Global lead on ESG Avisory, Aecom.

Reflecting on the upcoming panel discussion, Dr McCarron said;

‘One year on from the COP26 conference in Glasgow and the commitments made by world leaders, we remain in a precarious position with temperatures and carbon emissions continuing to rise. COP27 is an opportunity to reset and reflect on the commitments made and for governments to determine the actions which can be taken to tackle the impact of climate change across the globe.

South West College has received widespread acclaim for our own sustainability initiatives and training programmes and we are seeing significantly increased demand for places on our Passive House training courses since our participation at COP26 last year and the recent International Passive House Association camp which took place at the Erne Campus and CREST centre in Enniskillen in September. Being invited to participate in this event as part of the COP27 programme is yet another strong show of faith in the work that South West College has been doing in this area.’

The panel discussion will be streamed live on Saturday 12th November from 1:30pm at : http://globalabc.org/news/live-cop27-buildings-pavilion-auditorium
