Lion King Cast Member Hosts Workshop
Darcel Osei of the West End hit musical ‘The Lion King’ visited our Ardleigh Green campus last week to deliver a musical theatre workshop to our performing arts students.
The workshop was an invaluable experience for the students, which taught them the process of auditioning and what West End rehearsals are really like.
The workshop was very demanding but also very valuable. The students visibly progressed during the two hours and were able to realise the pressures of the West End routine.
Following the workshop, Darcell hosted a question and answer session with the students, which gave them the opportunity to ask her questions about her journey, how she got to where she is today and her plans for the future.
She also explained the significance of mock auditions, explaining that they test how quickly someone can grasp choreography routines. Praising the students for their valiant efforts, she said:
They did good. They were really focused and even though there were things that I could tell they weren’t necessarily very comfortable with, they gave everything a good shot and that’s all I could have asked for.
The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and learnt a lot from their time with Darcel. China Francis said:
I loved it. You’ve got to push yourself in this type of industry. Every day is a new milestone, you push yourself to a new limit. I would love to do something like that again.
A huge thank you to Darcel for her time, and we hope to see some of our own students on the big stage in the near future!
