Public consultation launched on outline content for T-levels

The Institute for Apprenticeships has launched a consultation on three new T Levels for the construction and digital sectors.

Panels of industry experts have developed and submitted draft outline content for Technical Qualifications in On Site Construction; Building Services Engineering; and Digital Support Services.

These T Level pathways will be part of the next batch of high-quality two-year classroom based programmes – which will have parity of esteem with A-levels – to be rolled out from 2021.

The Institute is now seeking views on them from all interested stakeholders through a consultation launched today.

The content for these exciting new T Levels has been carefully designed by panels of industry and professional employers.

We are now seeking feedback from everyone interested in helping to ensure that T Levels lead the way in transforming the public standing of technical education, while also serving the skills needs of the UK economy for generations to come.

First announced in 2016, T Levels are a key milestone in transforming technical education in the UK and extends the offer for young people to study a technical qualification at level three – equivalent to A levels.

They will be classroom-based but also involve significant industry placements in their relevant sectors.

This is the second T Level consultation carried out by the Institute.

The first was launched in May this year, on the outline content for Technical Qualifications for the first three T Levels that will be launched from 2020.

These covered Construction (Design, Surveying and Planning); Digital (Digital Production, Design and Development); and Education and Childcare. 

The finalised outline content for the first three T Levels was published alongside the invitation to tender in early September.

The second consultation launched today, will close at midnight on Monday, 12 November 2018.

The Institute would welcome responses from anyone interested in T Levels and wider employer-led technical education and apprenticeships reform.

Views are particularly sought from:

• Employers within those industry pathways,
• Awarding Organisations that are interested in developing the Technical Qualification based on the outline content, and
• Providers that are interested in delivering these T Levels.
