Barking & Dagenham College student named in national ‘Student of the Year’ awards
Barking & Dagenham College student, Jephta Asamoah, has been named a finalist of the Association of Colleges Student of the Year awards.
Jephta is one of just 3 finalists in the Young Student of the Year Award category of the national awards.
Jephta, who is deaf, has grasped every opportunity that he has been given at college with both hands and achieved great things as a result, including securing the highest grades possible for his BTEC Extended Diploma – a Triple Distinction.
Nicky Gibson, Director of Student Support at Barking & Dagenham College says:
“Jeptha is a true inspiration to young people with disabilities; he is living proof that nothing in life should hold you back from achieving your dreams.”
David Hughes, Chief Executive of the Association of Colleges, said:
“Once again we have had excellent applications from colleges across the country who are all rightly proud of the efforts, achievements and application of their students. It makes the judging really tough, and offers inspiration to all of us. These awards show how much great work colleges are doing every day to help people realise their ambitions and develop their talents.
“Jephta Asamoah has shown fantastic resolve and persistence and I wish him well on the night.”
The awards will be announced on Monday 19 November in an evening of celebration as the Association of Colleges also premiere a programme partnership between AoC and ITN Productions, showcasing some of the ways that colleges are transforming the lives of more than two million people across England and how vital colleges are to the future of the British economy in the 21st century.
