Fareham College celebrates Higher Education success with graduation ceremony

Fareham College has celebrated its Higher Education students graduating with a dedicated ceremony at its campus.

The TES FE College of the Year, welcomed 35 graduates and their guests, the majority of which graduating from education and training programmes, to the College to mark the completion of their courses.

Higher Education courses available at Fareham College cover a large spectrum of disciplines ranging from engineering through to childcare. The programmes lead onto nationally recognised qualifications and with many HND and HNC courses only taking two years to complete, students can cut the cost of attending university significantly. Gaining real work experience, specialist knowledge and learning the very latest skills gives students the opportunity for the best start to their career.

Nigel Duncan, Principal of Fareham College said: “HE programmes are a popular choice at Fareham College and provide a more affordable route to university and beyond. The quality of training on theses course is still high and you generally find smaller classes, which allows for more contact time and personalised teaching methods. The flexibility of these programmes is praised by students and we’re sure their recommendations lead to many new learners joining us.”

Allison Privett has just achieved a First Class Honours in her BA Top Up in Early Years, a course delivered by Fareham College in conjunction with University of Chichester.

Speaking about her experience, Allison Privett said: “I decided to enrol on the BA (Hons) degree at Fareham College, as I already knew the lecturers and what amazing support they offered me previously, through having completed my Early Years Foundation Degree at Fareham College. Despite juggling a family and full time work, my lecturers were really supportive resulting in great enjoyment of my time at Fareham College. I would encourage anyone, regardless of age, to follow their aspirations for their chosen career path.”

Cordelia Castle from Lower Swanwick, has just completed her teaching Level 5 in hairdressing and has been a returning student to Fareham College since 1987 when she started her YTS.

“I’ve always found Fareham College a happy and welcoming place to study and that’s why I keep coming back with every further qualification. It put me in the best position possible and I have now started my own training academy for hairdressers.”

Julie Samways of Gosport has just completed a Level 5 Diploma in Teaching and Education in order to update her previous teaching qualifications and further her career.

“It was the first time I had been back to a classroom environment for at least 10 years so it was extremely daunting as a mature learner. I felt Fareham College brought me completely back up to date and ready to begin teaching again and restored my love for learning new things.”
