Mr Jin Xu made honorary professor by Durham University Business School

Leading Chinese official/expert in International business and commerce

Durham University Business School has awarded an honorary professorship to Mr Jin Xu, a former Minister Councillor of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, at a ceremony at the Hotel Jen, Beijing on Friday 21 September.

Mr Jin has had a long and distinguished career in the Chinese Ministry. A President of the Academy for International Business Officials, he has worked to build understanding and improve commerce between the People’s Republic of China and other nations including the USA, Turkey and the UK.

In his new role Mr Jin will be an ambassador for Durham University Business School supporting opportunities and introductions to some of China’s leading universities, research institutes and corporations.

The University’s Vice Chancellor Stuart Corbridge presented the award to Mr Jin at an event celebrating the University’s links with Chinese alumni and was witnessed by University staff and over 150 alumni and current students.

Professor Susan Hart, Dean of Durham University Business School said;

“Mr Jin has played an important role in building business links between the UK and China in his time in office at the UK embassy. Mr Jin’s continuing interest in commerce and education means he will be able to offer the School valuable insight and advice, supporting our developing education and research links with the world’s second largest economy.”

His professorship began in June 2018 and will run until the end of May 2021. Mr Jin commented;

“I know from direct experience how important business education and research are in world commerce. In today’s global markets business leaders need to know how to take advantage of the constant changes and challenges driven by technology and international relations. I am proud to accept the award of honorary professor from Durham University Business School. As an internationally renowned business school they understand this importance. I look forward to working with the School, helping them develop further collaborations with the People’s Republic of China”.

Mr Jin’s appointment comes a few short months after Durham University Business School announced the appointment of a number of industry experts, consultants and practitioners to the School as “Professors in Practice”. These positions have been designed to enhance the expertise and knowledge available to students through the School’s international learning community, and forge closer ties between academic expertise and modern business practice.
