UK’s best college achieves over 98 per cent pass rate on results day
Students at Fareham College have exceeded expectations on national results day 2018, arriving at the college’s Bishopsfield Road campus to collect their further education results.
The college saw an outstanding overall pass rate of 98.8 per cent in Advanced Level 3 Diplomas, with over half of students completing their level 3 qualifications achieving high grades, and over 20 per cent achieving the highest possible grades available.
Nigel Duncan, Fareham College Principal, said:
“Our students have once again done themselves and the college extremely proud. It has been a year full of accolades for Fareham College and the results our students have achieved prove beyond doubt that we are delivering education to the high standards befitting of an Ofsted Outstanding provider and TES College of the Year. I would like to wish them all the very best of luck as they progress into careers and higher education, and hope they keep us updated on their success in the future.”
Gethyn John and Connor O’Brien were among those students completing their Level 3 BTEC Extended Diplomas. They achieved the highest possible grade of D*D*D* (Triple Distinction Star), giving them each 168 UCAS points towards their University or Higher Apprenticeship progression.
Gethyn, who completed an Aeronautical Engineering Level 3 Diploma, said:
“I was really happy when I found out my results. I love engineering – It’s my passion. I’ve now been accepted for a degree-level apprenticeship in Civil Engineering and am grateful to all the teaching staff at Fareham College for helping me achieve this result.”
Speaking about Gethyn’s achievements, his mother, Lorraine, added:
“We’re really proud of Gethyn. I remember the first comment he made when he started at CEMAST was ‘I will get a Triple Distinction Star’. I said that’s a fantastic aim to have but we’ll be very proud of you whatever you get.”
Jennifer Platt, who studied Public Services and was awarded a grade D*D in her diploma, said:
“I can’t believe how well I did. Fareham College has been an amazing experience for me. I’m delighted with my results and cannot wait to get home and tell my parents the good news.”
Natalie Kirby, who won Fareham College Student of the Year 2018 and completed her Level 3 Production Arts (Make-Up) Diploma with a grade of D*D, said:
“The qualification I have just achieved will help me in the future as I have gained a huge amount of knowledge and skills, which gives me a great starting point for my career.”
