MESMA ANALYSIS REVEALS OFSTED FE PROVIDERS’ FINDINGS

Analysis of Ofsted’s latest FE reports indicate that lower grade providers tend to have less rigorous self assessment reports and improvement planning procedures in place, according to publishers Mesma, the online quality assurance specialist.

The free ‘Ofsted Inspection Further Education and Skills Key Findings Quickbook’ provides information on a number of independent training providers and FE colleges across England from details published by the education standards’ watchdog.

Mesma has extracted the key information from the findings in its new publication, which is designed as a handy reference guide. It includes overall grade summary tables, a summary of key findings and advice about ways to improve for failing or struggling providers.

Content has been sourced from the public reports published on the Ofsted website  and covers over 60 providers who were inspected by Ofsted between February to April 2018. 

Continued analysis of Ofsted results by Mesma has revealed that some providers still do not have adequate measures in place, despite the value of robust self-assessment and improvement plans. A proportion of staff are also failing to engage in planning processes or areas for improvement, Mesma claims.

Mesma believes that those identified by Ofsted as needing to improve their self-assessment and improvement planning could also be employing senior management that might be failing to implement planned actions quickly enough.

Carole Loader, director and founder of Mesma, said the Quickbook highlights to those with executive responsibility in learning organisations, the value of implementing planning processes and sorting out those areas where improvements are required.

Carole added: “From our experience, FE leaders and senior management must have a robust self-assessment and improvement planning model available, that’s understood by all involved, even if they have a ‘Good’ Ofsted.
